Streaming live audio in the highest quality is our business, and from the outside you might consider this a “solved problem”. So it’s our pleasure to announce some incremental improvements to this core audio transmission of Cleanfeed, and you don’t need to change anything to take advantage of them!
When audio or video is sent over the internet we split it into smaller units called packets. Each one of these packets crosses the internet independently, to be re-assembled at the recipient. Modern web browsers now offer a little more flexibility when it comes to the way they treat packets, and so we can take advantage of those, too.
Other recording systems have a compromised live audio quality and rely on “double ender” techniques to make quality recordings with someone in another location. These techniques have downsides; they can be complex, rely on much larger amounts of additional bandwidth to send a second copy of the audio “in quality” which itself can cause issues. Significantly, you have to trust the poorer-quality audio you hear during recording that everything will be ok — on the promise of the “good quality” audio making an appearance later when everyone has packed up and gone home. Fingers crossed!
With Cleanfeed we’ve proven that the internet can send and receive full quality audio worldwide, with which you can catch problems early, record and get great results.
The internet is awash with FUD claiming this isn’t possible (especially from people who compete with us in the area of remotely recording podcasts), but broadcaster have used these techniques for some time and having them available in a browser through Cleanfeed was just the next logical step. Don’t rely on our word for this, listen to our audio examples and also try it out for yourself. There’s a reason we won an Emmy award for pioneering techniques to do this.
So live audio quality is something we care deeply about, and our new Cleanfeed Cinema service is the result of years of digging deeper into the details. Sending live 2K resolution video at up to 60 frames per second has been great for flexing our expertise when it comes to “fat” streams. With these we achieve high quality video at high frame rates and in real time — with the same “near-zero latency” approach that made us notable for audio.
Not a week goes by without us carefully making updates and improvements to our Cleanfeed Pro service, and this week some of the new technology has been applied to boost our audio ‘core’. For those with good quality internet connections there should be no improvement; Cleanfeed’s audio quality is already exceptional and continues to be so. Our new changes refine the behaviour used to work with more difficult network conditions, making the latest Cleanfeed better than ever.
