In these strange times it’s great to hear that people are finding new ways to do the things they love.

Cleanfeed is being used to help actors, writers and theatre groups stage and produce radio dramas and plays with the rapport they feel when face to face.

In the UK, students at London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) built makeshift recording booths in their bedrooms using duvets and blankets to soften the sound, and then could interact with fellow actors and record the audio using Cleanfeed.

The students recorded episodes of Alien: Out of the Shadows by Tim Lebbon, and Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. Both were dramatized by audio director Dirk Maggs, who was generous enough to grant LAMDA permission to use his scripts.

“I’ve spent the last few years only doing theatre, so working on a project where I never saw the actor’s faces was very strange! I was really impressed as to how smoothly the whole process went and how the end-product turned out. It definitely felt like quite an achievement to be able to create something like this from the comfort of our own homes.” — LAMDA

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Antaeus Actors recorded a new series of original plays created by Playwrights Lab members. The Zip Code Plays celebrate the culture and history of different neighbourhoods in LA, from a speakeasy in South Central to the Pacific Palisades in the west of the City, and are free to stream.
